Ride and Stride sponsored walk for Wiltshire’s Historic Churches Trust

Our walkers (and two dogs!) walked a 12-mile circuit around all the churches in the Lidbrook Benefice last Saturday 10th September. But it’s not too late to sponsor them! Half the money raised goes to Wiltshire Historic Churches Trust and the other fifty percent comes direct to the Benefice to help maintain the fabric of our church buildings. You can donate through a Justgiving page:

or we are happy to accept cash – for further details please contact Pam Farmer 01225 744171 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

Autumn Clear Up 24th September and 15th October

We would love to get our church, both inside and out, looking its best to welcome the candidates coming for interviews. James Symons has kindly volunteered to co-ordinate the outside clear up, which will be on Saturday 24th of September, from 9.30 am for about an hour.  For further details, please ring James on 07763 906855.

List of Outside Fun is likely to include:

  • Sweep leaves from the valleys between the south aisle and nave roofs, and between the nave and north aisle.
  • Clear leaves and wood from the ditch on the south side (again) and from around the west end of the building.
  • Trim a few bushes in the churchyard in support of the grass cutting done by the council.

We are also planning to give the inside of the building attention too – on Saturday 15th October, starting at 10 am. List of Inside Fun is likely to include general tidying, as well as polishing silver and brass. Please could you let us know if you are able to assist in this – This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Harvest Sunday 18th September

The Sisters of the Community of the Church at Bristol have written to us:

Dear Supporters,

Once again it is that time of year when we think of Harvest. As ever, we are so grateful for your loyal support - and even though we are aware that more of us are struggling financially, we ask for your continued help with the following:

Our basic food parcel includes:

  • Tinned: meat, fish, baked beans, soup, vegetables, custard, rice pudding, fruit.
  • Plus: cereals, rice, pasta, tea bags, long-life milk.
  • Toiletries: We offer men’s and women’s toiletries, and nappies (all sizes)

Also:

  • Our cafe: we serve coffee/tea and sandwiches, so jars of coffee and bottles of squash are very welcome.
  • Gas and Electric top-ups: We all know that those on pre-pay systems pay the highest tariffs. This also applies to utilities payments. Most weeks we spend up to £300 to help our clients with their electric bills. Any help that you are able to offer towards the items above is, as always, hugely appreciated.
  • Please continue to pray for our work, as we pray with thanksgiving for you.

James will be taking all our contributions to the Sisters on Monday 19th September, probably leaving about 9 am.

Harvest Lunch Sunday 18th September

We will be sharing a Harvest Lunch on Sunday 18th September after the service, We will be having a simple meal, consisting of platters of cheese, patés, breads etc, with apple pie and custard ? Please bring your own drinks, we will provide everything else. There will be a donations box, which we hope will cover the costs of the food. If you are thinking of coming, can you let John & Alison know so they approximate ideas of numbers for catering.
