Creator of the heavens,

who led the Magi by a star

in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Please pray for those who are ill

Harry Barstow

We remember those whom we know,

who are suffering in sickness or adversity,

and those who especially need our prayers at this time.

Also the families and friends of those who have died.

*** A Looking Forward Vigil to Pray for Peace in the World ***

This Vigil is this Saturday 7th January in 2023, 4-6 pm in Box Methodist Church - followed by a bring-and-share meal. This is:

  • a time to send Light and Love to all the troubles and concerns of the World, and of our Hearts. Vigils are for everyone of any age (yes, children very welcome), of any belief or none: they are times to sit quiet, light a candle, write a "prayer" - or simply to stand for a few minutes by the doorway to watch helpful images on the wall and to absorb the atmosphere and the music.

  • a chance to gather strength: both to face our own concerns, and to go out of our way for others in the year ahead.

  • an opportunity to "Hold" those who are grieving and to send prayerful encouragement to all who are showing any kindnesses and love.

  • something more powerful than we imagine. In World War 2 the nation held a daily Silent Minute at 9pm - and some Nazis seriously thought we had a secret weapon

HEART - Sunday 8th January 4pm - 6pm

Heart 4 Rudloe meets on the second Sunday of the month, between 4pm and 6pm.  The theme this Sunday 8th January is “Let’s go – calling the disciples” and everyone of any age is welcome (children must bring an adult to look after them). The afternoon includes craft, tea drinking and Lego building. This is followed by prayer, a story and songs.  We round off the afternoon with some food (a light meal). This activity is free and is being run as part of the work of the Church of England in Box Parish.  Please do come along and join us as we make, pray and eat in the MOD Corsham Community Centre on Leafy Lane.

The Filling Station on Tuesday 10th January 7.30 pm

Our guest speaker is Revd Andrew Evans, Rector for St Mary’s Broughton Gifford, All Saints Great Chalfield, and St Katharine’s Holt.   He will be speaking on "Fruitfulness", which sounds like a good way to start the New Year.  Our musical worship will be led by James Collie, who is the Worship Pastor at St Swithins, Walcot in Bath.    Doors open at 7pm for coffee and cakes, with the evening starting at 7.30 pm and finishing at about 9.30 pm (although do feel free to come and go as convenient - it is completely informal and relaxed).

The Filling Station is an informal “café style” evening in the Box Methodist church building on Box High Street. Come from 7 pm for coffee and cake, to start at 7.30 pm with musical worship, followed by Andrew’s talk and an opportunity for prayer, concluding at about 9.30 pm

Alpha Anyone?

Alpha is a place to explore the Christian faith in a relaxed and friendly environment.  Each session starts with an introduction and short film.  Then there's time to share thoughts, ask questions and eat cake; you can say anything you like or nothing at all.  There’s no follow-up, no charge and never any pressure.  Everyone is welcome.   No matter your background or beliefs, you are invited!  You can take part in the course: on-line or in person; during the day or in the evenings. It all begins on 17th or 19th January.

Warm Spaces and Soup in Box!

The Box Methodist Church Thursday Café are offering new extended autumn/winter hours!  They are keenly aware of the need to support everyone during the hard months ahead. Their Thursday Café regularly attracts 15-20 folk (of all faiths and none) who enjoy meeting up throughout the year for a chat. The Thursday Café will continue to open during the Christmas and New Year period. Also, on alternate Thursdays they are offering home-made soup and a roll! Everyone is welcome ? and they would welcome volunteers to support this very kind and worthwhile venture. The Next Soup Thursday is 12th January 2023.

Thanks from James Symons

Many thanks for all of the donations to the Sisters in Bristol this year.  I had an overwhelming number of vouchers and money to take, to help support people with their electric meters and essentials to get through the winter.  Also, the cold weather gear and food will come in most useful for all those in need in the St Pauls community in Bristol. Thanks once again.

Nativity Figures

The Nativity figures for the St Thomas’ crib have been refurbished for their annual appearance! In order for them to be stored safely and without damage in future, they would appreciate donations of bubble wrap – any size or condition. Please pass bubble wrap to Angela or email her at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and she’ll gladly collect it from you.

Regulations around Public Worship Please don't enter the building if you have symptoms of COVID-19 and sanitise your hands when you enter.  The area in the Hazelbury Chapel will continue to be a 'lower-risk' zone during Sunday services where face coverings should be worn, this is to provide an area for those who are vulnerable or wish to exercise more caution. Communion will be distributed by the president by intinction.
