Urban Theology Unit

For more than thirty years the UTU as been supporting ordained and lay ministers in the development of practical theological tools.  UTU has been a forerunner in using academic insights and rigour relevant to the churches task in which the urban affects almost every community.  They offer advanced research programmes with high levels of support and yet with limited time spent in Sheffield, these include MPhil/PhD, MA and foundation degree courses, as well as providing for sabbatical and retreat periods.  No other institution offers relevant programmes for ministers at this level so flexibly and efficiently.

“The Urban Theology Unit is committed to Christian practice, mission and theology in the city, and to the education, support and resourcing of ministers and lay people for contextual engagement and discipleship”.

This summer, the UTU is offering two summer schools which take place between the 15th and 18th of July 2008, details of these are included in the above Events section.

Pursuing a Masters programme can be an excellent opportunity to reflect in some depth on a theological issue, an area of ministry or a movement in mission that is of relevance to churches today.

New for 2008: Modules in Global Mission which extend flexibility of choice and provide new perspectives in contemporary issues in global mission and Anglicanism.

Common Worship Today, Study Edition

A Guide to Common Worship, ed. Mark Earey, Gilly Myers, Colin Buchanan, Trevor Lloyd.

The arrival of the Common Worship services marked a significant step in the provision of worship resources for the Church of England.  ‘Common Worship Today’ provides a comprehensive illustrated guide, both for worship leaders and worshippers, exploring the practical implications of the new services and the historical background and underlying thinking which had led to their production.

This new study edition brings the wealth of information in the original to a new audience.  The text has been thoroughly revised, bringing it fully up to date.

Though designed to be an affordable introduction to Anglican liturgy for those training for lay or ordained ministries, the book will be of interest to all those whop wish to grow in their understanding of worship, and Common Worship in particular.
