The Churches live out their faith by trying to support a number of charities
ranging from local to national organisations. Both St Thomas's and St
Christopher's have a policy of giving a way a proportion of their income.
Here are some of the charities currently being supported:
Christian Aid The church in Box has been involved with Christian Aid for almost a decade. We have an army of collectors (though we could always do with more -- Box is a large parish!), some of whom have been doing it from the start. We draw on the village as a whole, not just the church, as we do feel this is a way of involving the whole community and it is a brilliant means of demonstrating to the outside world the commitment to others that we, as Christians, are called upon to give. We start the week with a special service to give us inner strength and resolution: dismissive people can be discouraging, as are unanswered doorbells. We get to meet a great number of people locally and have the satisfaction of knowing that our efforts are helping to improve the lives of other people, in distant communities, perhaps not so very unlike ours here in Box! Any ideas for keeping the profile of Christian Aid high are very welcome, as are offers to host coffee mornings, bring-and-buy sales, etc. This is something that needs to be kept going all year round, not just for a week! Genesis Trust Genesis Trust is run by Bath City Churches to help the homeless of Bath. It provides overnight accommodation at Julian House, hot meals, access to social, educational, and drugs rehabilitation services. If you are visiting Bath and would like to help those you see around you begging on the streets you can give then Genesis Vouchers, which they can exchange for accommodation or food. These are available from the coffee shop at Manvers Street Baptist Church or from Rhoda Daniels, Netherby Cottage 743721 and cost 50p each.
