Churchyard Working Party this Saturday 30 September, 9am start

Any help with an end-of-summer blitz of cutting, pruning and sweeping in the churchyard on Saturday 30 September will be much appreciated, from 9am that morning for a couple of hours.  Comes under the general heading of having fun!  Many thanks in advance!       Charles

Community of the Sisters of the Church

We delivered more than 300 items to the Sisters following our Harvest Festival for which the Sisters were, as always, extremely grateful.

There is a copy of a letter from Sister Rosina and Sister Teresa Mary on the notice board expressing just how grateful they are for our contribution and thanking us on behalf of their many callers.

Many thanks

Robin

TeePee Project Update

The tendering process is still not complete, but significant progress has been made.   The first tenders received came from 3 large-ish building firms who each submitted quotes which were disappointingly high.   This led to a second round of tendering with 2 smaller, local companies. Their submissions are much nearer the figures we had expected, and detailed discussions are now getting under way in order to put some flesh on the bones of an estimate which has an attractive bottom line, but currently does not give much indication of how that figure has been calculated. As part of the application for the sizeable grants which we still need, it is necessary to tell potential donors how much of the expenditure lies with the accessible toilet and how much with the tea-&-coffee-station.  We also need to ensure that every item listed by the architect in his lengthy specification has been fully incorporated into whichever tender we accept.  Finally, of course, we need to be sure that we are protected against any nasty surprises once the work is started.

Meanwhile many people locally continue to give generously, boosting the money raised via earlier donations, Burns Night, the Auction of Promises, a generous legacy, Box Art Club, and other sources.  Coupled with some small grants which have already been received and money which we should be able to take from the existing Fabric Fund, we have raised about £40,000, which is a tremendous effort.  That said, we need about the same amount again, but grant-givers are likely to be impressed by what we have done so far and we hope that the next round of applications will result in various trusts etc giving substantial matching funding. Our next fund-raising event is the Caribbean evening which, at the time of writing, has nearly reached sell-out.

Other good news is that the lengthy process of obtaining a Faculty, the church's equivalent of planning permission and listed building consent, has been successfully completed.             Charles
